#309 Pear on a Dish

Click to buy! (8x8 inch oil)

Took me a few days to get to another pear painting, but I finally finished it yesterday.  I set up the composition last Friday and did a quick value study and underpainting on Sunday.  Then I tackled the color while my daughter was playing at a friend's house Monday.  Lately I've had a hard time getting the motivation to paint in evenings.  I think some of it is that I'm still coming out of a winter slump.  Some of it is just that I'm tired...go figure!

#308 The Pair

Click to buy! (8x8 inch oil)

Painted these pairs for this week's DPW Challenge, to paint either pears or a pair.  I haven't painted many pears in awhile.  It was a little challenging to make them both red and green but I loved the red parts to them.  I'm hoping to squeeze in one more pear painting before the end of the weekend.

#291 High Key Resolution

Click to buy!  (6x6 inch oil)

Once again I'm posting paintings out of order.  I painted this little piece last night for the Daily Paintworks Challenge to paint about a New Year resolution.  I don't really have a resolution for art this year but I would like to experiment more with high key pieces.  Probably could have gone higher but this one was a fun, quick study.  I also want to experiment more with figurative work this year and plein air painting!

#271 Mug, Glass and Red Pears

Click to buy! (6x6 inch oil)

It was really hard painting on gessobord after a couple of weeks working on linen and canvas.  I forgot how slippery it can feel!  Found this mug at Target...another item in one of my favorite colors.

#236 Pear in a Pink Bowl

Click to buy! (5x7 inch oil)

I have these posts a little out of order because I painted this pear last week when I was in a pear streak.  I like painting this bowl.  It's challenging to get the drawing and values correct, but I like the color and especially the color in the shadow.

#234 The Green Pair

Click to buy! (6x6 inches)

Painted the two pears again.  I couldn't get the color in the photo to quite match the painting.  Not sure why that is harder with some paintings than others.  I used a new light bulb for this one.  It is a spotlight and focused the light a lot more than the other bulb I've been using.  I don't think I did the best job capturing it but I tired to make the area in the bottom right corner show the light that was pointed there.  I like painting an object on two different colored papers and seeing how the color of the shadow changes.

#233 Pears and a Glass Bowl

Click to buy! (6x6 inch oil)

The second in a series with pears!  I'm really happy with how the bowl turned out.  I had to simplify some of the shadows and reflections and this time it worked!  I like the green highlight on the rim.  I also like the purple stroke under the left pear.  It's the little things, I guess :)

#232 Pear on Pink

Click to buy! (6x6 inch oil)

When I'm needing to refocus, it often helps me to do a quick painting of a piece of fruit.  Just keep it simple.  This time I chose a pear...which I've only painted one other time for a 10 minute painting exercise.  I love back light and I can't seem to get away from pink this year. :)
