#196 Daisy Bouquet

Click to buy! (6x6 in.)

Another painting from the bouquet I bought at Sprouts last week.  Some of the flowers didn't make it, but I have a few that are still hanging on!  I really tried to focus on values in this painting and keeping it simple...though it took longer than I thought it would!  I'm struggling this week.  I still feel so wiped.  I think I'm either fighting something off or just have bad allergies right now.  It's also the end of the ministry year (I work part time in college ministry).  Makes sense I would be feeling tired at the end, plus I already started my summer assignment for work.  I just have not had much energy for painting...and another very busy week in front of me.  Hoping to hit a groove again soon.

#195 Daisies and Lemon

Click to buy! (10x8 in.)

Painted a little bigger for this one.  I wanted to paint more of these flowers while they still look good!  I also decided to paint if for this week's Daily Paintworks Challenge...to paint lost edges.  I tried to include a couple.  Do you see them?  Overall it was fun to paint and my daughter actually took a nap today...so nice to not feel rushed!

#193 and #194 Pink Gerbera

Donated (7x5 in.)

I wasn't able to paint for a week!  I was at a conference for work Thursday thru Sunday night and was totally wiped by the time I got home.  I spent Monday and Tuesday taking care of our home and getting a little break.  I think the combination of getting ready for the art show and then travel for work was lot for me!  But I pulled out my paints today while my daughter was resting and decided to paint one of the flowers that I bought at Sprouts this week.  I wiped off the petals initially and started over.  It worked better the second time around.

This painting was an experiment.  It was my first time using oil paper...completely different from canvas and gessobord!  The paint felt really dry while I applied it.  I just tried to capture the values and colors in this painting.

#192 Orange Buds and 2nd Friday Norman Art Walk

Click to buy! (6x6 in.)

I painted this one last night late and after a long day, but I had it in my mind and wanted to see it in real life!  I've had a lot of fun painting oranges this week.  The tulips have been fun, too.  I'm not sure what I will paint next.  I might try something for the DPW Challenge.  The challenge is to focus on brushstrokes and maybe even try different brushes than you are used to using.  I really haven't explored brushwork too much so it would probably be good for me to do.  I'm leaving town on Thursday and won't be back until late Sunday night. It's for work.  My time to paint this week is definitely limited.  Hoping to get 1-2 more painted before I leave!

Friday night was the 2nd Friday Norman Art walk in downtown Norman.  I've never shown any of my art there, but this month I showed 28 pieces at a place called The Social Club.  Not only was my art there for the art walk but it will hang there for the next month!  It was a great night.  A lot of my sweet friends stopped by to encourage me and I sold some art!  I included a few pictures below.

#191 Tulips, Pink and Oranges

Click to buy! (7x5 in.)

Painted these flowers and orange slices a couple of days ago, but I didn't like it too much.  I don't usually go back to a painting and try to correct it, but this time I did.  I made the light sides of the tulips more saturated and gave the background a little more color, too.  I think it helped.

I had a great time at the 2nd Friday Norman Artwalk last night.  I showed my paintings there for the first time.  I'll write more about it in the next couple of days.  Too tired tonight :)  Been getting the house ready for Easter lunch with friends tomorrow.  Though I did manage to squeeze in another tulip piece tonight.  Post that one tomorrow!

#190 Citrus on White

SOLD (6x6 in.)

This painting is my second attempt at painting orange slices.  In my first one, the composition wasn't great.  I thought it looked good in the shadow box but not on the panel.  For this one I was more careful with the composition and I think I got the values more accurate.  I love the look of oranges in paintings so I hope to paint more soon!

#189 The Opal Experiment #190 Oklahoma Walk

Click to buy! (6x6 inch oil on gessobord)

I struggled with both of these paintings this weekend.  I wiped my first attempt with the opal apple yesterday afternoon and then tried it again last night.  I was hoping it would be a little looser but I ended up wiping off the green paint and going a little darker with that color and it took away the freshness of the edges and strokes.  I had never painted a golden apple.  It was hard to get the shadow side the right value and color.

I painted this scene from a photo I took a couple of years ago while I was walking on OU's campus.  I painted it for a friend.  I actually painted this exact scene back in 2015 when I was first learning to use acrylic paint.  Though it isn't where I want it to be, I can definitely see growth and that is encouraging!  Here is the original painting I did.

#188 Sunflowers and Stripes

SOLD (6x6 in.)

I painted these sunflowers late one evening earlier this week.  I love how it turned out.  I've only used the striped fabric in one other painting...want to play around with it some more!

#187 Melon Slice

Click to buy! (6x6 in.)

I painted these cantaloupe slices last night for another Daily Paintworks Challenge, "The Sliced Challenge".  Getting the values correct was a challenge, but I like how it all turned out.  It was fun using a couple of different colors for the background.  I've been wanting to experiment with that more!

#186 Pretty in Pink

SOLD (6x6 in.)

I had the hardest time getting an accurate photo of this painting!  This is as close as I could get it.  I painted these strawberries because I wanted to simplify.  My last few paintings have been a struggle!  This one was just fun.  I've never used a pink background and I had a lot of fun with that.  The pink in the painting is actually a little richer, but still soft.  I used Carol Marine's method of painting from island to ocean.  Started with the berries, next their shadows and finally the pink.  I added a few leaves at the very end, but most of them were painted with the berries.  Next up: something sliced.  I bought the fruit yesterday at Sprouts...hoping to paint it tonight!

#185 March Book Club

Click to buy! (6x6 in.)

In March we read "Bel Canto" by Ann Patchett.  I'm hearing to book club in about 20 minutes and curious to see what the others thought of it.  I'll be honest, I had a hard time getting through it.  I actually skimmed parts of the middle!

My favorite part to paint was the patterned background.  I'm hoping to try that some more.  The mug just about did me in...as usual...but I think it turned out alright in the end.  I don't know why I continue to put mugs in my paintings when they are always so challenging for me!
