#234 The Green Pair

Click to buy! (6x6 inches)

Painted the two pears again.  I couldn't get the color in the photo to quite match the painting.  Not sure why that is harder with some paintings than others.  I used a new light bulb for this one.  It is a spotlight and focused the light a lot more than the other bulb I've been using.  I don't think I did the best job capturing it but I tired to make the area in the bottom right corner show the light that was pointed there.  I like painting an object on two different colored papers and seeing how the color of the shadow changes.

#233 Pears and a Glass Bowl

Click to buy! (6x6 inch oil)

The second in a series with pears!  I'm really happy with how the bowl turned out.  I had to simplify some of the shadows and reflections and this time it worked!  I like the green highlight on the rim.  I also like the purple stroke under the left pear.  It's the little things, I guess :)

#232 Pear on Pink

Click to buy! (6x6 inch oil)

When I'm needing to refocus, it often helps me to do a quick painting of a piece of fruit.  Just keep it simple.  This time I chose a pear...which I've only painted one other time for a 10 minute painting exercise.  I love back light and I can't seem to get away from pink this year. :)

#231 Lemons and Blue

Click to buy! (8x8 in.)

I painted this piece last Friday.  The glass was another dollar store purchase...blue/green, of course!  I love how the shadow of the glass is colorful and light.  I really enjoyed painting on the linen panel, again.  I have one more and I'm hoping to do a third painting with lemons on it.  My plan was to do it tonight, but I was too tired from the weekend and a full day of work and errands today!

#230 Lemons and Linen

Click to buy! (8x8 in.)

I had a lot of fun experimenting with a linen panel for the first time.  It was really different from using gessobord.  I've already painted another on linen and plan to paint one more in the same way.  Maybe it will be a little series when I'm finished :)  Was out of town with my family over the weekend but hoping to paint again on Monday evening!

#229 Morning Flowers

 Click to buy! (7x5 inches)

I almost never paint in the mornings, but on Sunday my daughter was occupied and I had a little time before church so I decided to get started on this one.  It was nice to paint while I was still kind of fresh in the day!  Ha!  The flowers were tricky.  I started with them and wiped them 3 times before getting it like they are now.

#228 Get Loose

Click to buy! (6x6 in.)

Painted for the Daily Paintworks Challenge. It was really fun experimenting. I definitely see a different between the first apple and the last, but it was hard to make it get a little bit looser each time. I definitely want to try this again!

#227 Mr. Serious

Click to buy! (6x6 in.)

Painted for last week's DPW Challenge.  I started it last week but didn't get a chance to finish it until yesterday.  It felt pretty out of control when I started but it came together in the end.

#226 July Book Club

Click to buy!  (6x6 inches)

We read "Orphan Train" for this month's book club.  It is historical fiction and I really enjoyed it.  I experimented with a pattern in the background of this one.

#225 The Blue One

Click to buy! (5x7 inches)

I painted this last week and I'm just now posting it here.  I purchased the mug at the dollar store when I was buying supplies for my daughter's birthday party.  I'm always drawn to things that are blue and green.  I struggled with the mug but in the end it turned out ok.

#224 Pinky and Wild

Click to buy! (6x6 inches)

I tried to kind of go back to the basics last night.  I think part of why I've been struggling this last week is because I'm trying to be further along in my painting journey than I really am.  I watched some Carol Marine Artbytes last night and I was reminded of why daily painting is so good for growth as an artist.  For now, I need to stick with painting daily (or close to that) and not worry so much about producing a masterpiece.  That last part is hard for me.  I need to give myself time to grow and not be so hard on myself!  I painted a pink lady apple from Sprouts and a little green apple my husband picked off a tree this week.

#223 Breakfast

Click to buy!  (8x10 inches)

Painting has been such a struggle ever since I returned from my trip to Texas.  I've had the desire but I haven't liked much that I've tried painting.  I painted this piece for this week's DPW challenge to paint breakfast foods.  I tried two other compositions and wiped both.  I'm still not sure what I think of this one.  I'm in a weird place with my painting these days.  When I first started painting, if the object I painted was recognizable it was a success!  Ha!  I also used mainly one technique...the one I found the most help with on line.  Now I'm experimenting with different techniques, trying to figure out what compositions I like, etc.  I think it will be good in the long run, but it is messy along the way!
