30 Paintings in 30 Days is Complete!

I wanted to make a collage of all the pictures I painted during the challenge, but I couldn't find a collage app that would let me make a collage with more than 9 pictures...technically challenged.  Oh well.  So here are 3 collages of most of the paintings I painted during the month of September.

Not completely in order but close enough.  I still have so much to learn, but I'm thankful for all of the experience I got this month!

#79 Cool Morning (Day 30 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

Click to buy! (6x6 inch)

Today is the last day of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge!  I really enjoyed being a part of it.  It kept me painting through a busy season of life and I met a few artists along the way!  I had a really hard time figuring out what I wanted to paint last night.  I started with a still life,  but scrapped it during the drawing stage and went for a sailboat on an overcast day.  It was my first time painting a landscape with an overcast sky.  Hopefully that translated in the painting!

#78 Table for One (Day 29 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

Click to buy! (6x6 inch)

I think this is my final painting of pumpkins for awhile!  Can't believe that tomorrow is the last day of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge.  It has kind of flown by.  I'll write more of my thoughts about it tomorrow.

#77 Pumpkin Drama (Day 28 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

SOLD (6x6 inch)

My second painting with this little pumpkin. Turned it around and tried different lighting.  I painted this one very quickly again.  I had work yesterday and plans in the evening...so it happened after all of that!  It's been good to keep things simple lately and try multiple paintings with the same subject...just changing things up a bit.  Gives me good opportunities to learn.

#76 Funny Little Pumpkin (Day 27 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

Click to buy! (6x6 inch)

I had to paint something fall before the 30 Day Challenge is complete!  I have lots of these little pumpkins tucked away in various places around my home.  It went pretty quickly, which was great because I worked yesterday and only had a little window of time to paint after my daughter went to bed.  I think I'm going to paint another one with different lighting.

#75 Artichoke (Day 26 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

Click to buy! (6x6 inch oil on gessobord)

I painted this very quickly yesterday afternoon.  I'm sure there are things that could be improved but I felt like it was done.  I use a limited palette when I paint...no green from a tube.  So I was unsure how doing an all green object would go.  Overall it was a lot of fun to paint!

#74 Will You Paint Me? (Day 25 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

Click to buy! (5x7 inch)
I need to take the photo of this painting again tomorrow...when it's not such a gray day outside.  The painting is so much warmer than the photo shows.  Named because it kind of seems like the egg plant is asking the paintbrush a question.  The brush actually took me longer than the eggplant!  I think it's because it was my first time to paint one.  Painting it was fun!

#73 Purple People Eater (Day 24 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

SOLD (6x6 inch)

My husband named this one!  It's nice to keep things simple when I'm painting something I've never painted before, especially when time is limited!  The  most challenging part was painting the reflected light...and getting the photo to match the painting!

#72 The Sweetest Thing (Day 23 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

SOLD (6x6 inch)

Loved painting this one!  Strawberries are fun and I enjoyed seeing the bowl of sugar come to life.  One of my favorite things about painting is seeing something created that never before existed.  Reminds me that painting is an expression of who God is...but on a much smaller scale!

I had a lot of fun painting these strawberries.  Again, I have almost no red in my house but I love painting with it!

#70 Simply Orange (Day 21 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

(6x6 inch)

A quick study I did of an orange late at night!  It's hard to get the colors in the photo to match the actual colors of the painting.  The painting is warmer and richer.  It was nice to just keep things simple.  I might do a couple more of these with other fruits or veggies this week.

#68 September Book Club (Day 18 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

SOLD (6x6 inch)

My first attempt at painting this month's book was a total wiper.  It looked terrible and I thought I might not paint the book for September.  But I decided to take off the book jacket (simplified things a lot), changed the composition and now I like it.  We read "Homegoing" By Yaa Gyasi.  I love being in a book club because I'm disciplined to read (which I love to do but don't always make time for) and read things I might never had read otherwise.  I thought this book was good.  Here is part of the summary I found on Amazon.com...

"The unforgettable New York Times best seller begins with the story of two half-sisters, separated by forces beyond their control: one sold into slavery, the other married to a British slaver. Written with tremendous sweep and power, Homegoing traces the generations of family who follow, as their destinies lead them through two continents and three hundred years of history, each life indelibly drawn, as the legacy of slavery is fully revealed in light of the present day."

I learned a lot about the slave trade reading this book.  I would recommend it, though want to give a warning that it is fairly graphic.

#66 Restore Me (Day 15 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

SOLD (6x6 inch)

I am enjoying these boats so much that I just keep painting more.  I named this one "Restore Me".  It made me think of being outdoors, connecting with my Creator, and letting Him speak peace to my heart.

#64 Beached Boat (Day 13 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

Not for Sale (5x7 inch)

I painted another boat for this week's DPW challenge.  It was a lot of fun, too.  I used the same approach for it that I use in still life painting.  I started with the boat, then the shadow and then the beach, water and sky.  Learned all of that from Carol Marine, one of my favorite artists.  It was honestly a lot like painting a still life.

#63 Abandoned Boat (Day 12 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

SOLD (5x7 inch)

I painted this boat for this week's DPW Challenge, "The Boat Challenge".  I wasn't feeling very confident when I started out, but I like it.  I really love paintings of the coast.  My house is decorated in neutrals, blues, greens and some yellow.  Most of the walls in my house are painted with a color called "Sea Salt" and it reminds me of the beach.  I'm hoping, at some point, to learn more about how to paint seascapes.

No. 62: 3 Red Carnations (Day 11 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

Click to bid! (6x6 inch)

I had so much fun painting the red carnations from my last painting that I decided to paint them again.  It was also good practice in painting more glass.  I chose a white background so that the red would really stand out.

No. 61: Pops of Red (Day 10 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

SOLD (6x6 in)

I painted these flowers today during my daughter's nap.  She actually slept...yay...and she really did need it!  I bought a bouquet of flowers on clearance the other day and they are already going down hill.  Lesson learned.  So I snapped a bunch of photos so that I can hopefully paint them for awhile.  I don't have much red in my house...maybe none?  But I sure did enjoy painting these red flowers.

I painted this piece for a Daily Paintworks Challenge.  I've never painted anything like it, but it was fun.  My favorite part was painting the sky.  I really enjoyed laying down the bright strokes of color.

No. 59: Last Light (Day 8 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

sold (5x7 inch)

I had to throw away the sunflowers I've been using this week.  They were on their last leg and starting to smell kind of funky!  But I've had a lot of fun painting them.  It has inspired me to paint more flowers.  So I might be grabbing a bouquet of new flowers when I go grocery shopping this week.  Thankfully I can get them pretty cheap and they also brighten up the kitchen.  Zach, EK and I also went for a drive on Labor Day and I took about 60 photos of some land out west of Norman.  I have pretty much no experience painting landscapes, but think it would be fun to play around with it.  I'm really happy with how this painting turned out.  I named them "Last Light" since it was the last time they "posed" for me and since we are nearing the end of summer.

No. 58: Standing Tall (Day 7 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

Not for Sale (7x5 inch)

I friend of mine is throwing a big dinner/silent auction adoption fundraiser in October and asked if I would contribute a painting for it.  I am thrilled to be a part of it!  This is the painting that will be in the auction.

As for yesterday, I had a full day and really didn't think I would have time to paint.  Somehow it worked out...probably because I'm staying up too late!  I need to figure out how to paint and get to bed a little earlier!  I haven't painted much glass and it has been a little while since my last time.  I struggled some getting back into the hang of it.  The colors in the photo are a little off.

No. 57: Beaming (Day 6 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days)

SOLD (7x5 inch)

The second in a series of sunflower paintings.  It was also a lot of fun to paint.  Tried to keep things loose and applied thick, bold strokes.  I have tried painting sunflowers in the past and they were a disaster...so I'm encouraged!

I had so much fun painting this sunflower.  I really tried to loosen up and used thicker paint.  It was freeing and I like the result.  Hoping to paint more sunflowers this week!

I took the last few days off from painting while visiting family in Texas.  It was tough getting back into the swing of things today.  I sketched this painting before I left town and finished it up today.  It will be my third painting for the "30 paintings in 30 days" Challenge.

No. 52: Three Amigos (Day 1 of 30 paintings in 30 days)

SOLD (6x6 inch)

I've been painting bananas lately. I painted these quite a few days ago but I waited to post them for the "30 in 30 Challenge" I'm doing this month!  The idea of the challenge is to paint 30 pieces during the 30 days of September.  I signed up for it as a way to keep myself painting frequently and to maybe meet other artists.  I'm not going to pressure myself to paint 30 but I'll try to get as close as possible!  Here I go!!!!
